Did You Know?

We have amazing kids in our community and we want to make sure to keep them safe. Some kids in our community are using drugs as seen in the Texas School Surveys. We wanted to share some of our research data with you. This survey was given to kids 7th grade through 12th grade in 2016. Here are some significant statistics.

Texas School Survey Statistics

55% of Blanco Seniors and 45% of juniors reported drinking alcohol in the last month.
54% of Blanco high School Seniors report having tried marijuana.
23% of Blanco students grades 7-12 state that it would be “very easy” to get marijuana.
13% of Blanco students grades 7-12 reported using marijuana in the last month.
Only 49% of Blanco ISD students feel that it is “very dangerous” to use alcohol.
56% of Blanco ISD students state that alcohol is “somewhat easy” or “very easy” to obtain compared to 46.9% statewide.
25.5% of Blanco ISD students age 7-12 say that alcohol was used at most or all parties that they attended in the past year, compared to 18.4% statewide.
21.9% of Blanco students grade 7-12 report using an illicit drug at least 1 time in their lifetime.
38% of Blanco High School senior report using marijuana in the past 30 days, compared to 23% statewide.
44.7% of High School seniors report that marijuana and/or other drugs were used at most or all parties they attended sure the school year as compared to 25.3 % statewide.
73.8% of 7 grade students perceive that their close friends are using alcohol.
92.7% of students at Blanco ISD state that they get their information about drugs and alcohol from school.

These statistics give us an idea of what we need to work towards in order to make positive changes for our youth and our community. The most effective way to prevent youth substance use is to work together as a community using different prevention methods in order to accomplish community level change. Parents start talking to your kids at a young age and get involved with CoAPT.
